Kol Mikaelson
Character History:
Middle Ages
Mystic Falls

Kol was born to be the second youngest son to Esther and Mikael; he's only older than one brother Henrik. He's also older than Rebekah and has an awful case of Middle Child Syndrome. He grew up with his siblings in Mystic Falls, and was the only one to practice magic, becoming rather proficient in the art at a young age. It wasn't until the loss of his younger brother Henrik - to werewolves - that Mikael and Esther decided that they couldn't handle another child's death, and Mikael forced Esther to use dark magic to make their children immortals - original vampires.

This was done by feeding all the siblings a doppelganger's blood (laced into wine) and then killing them whilst it was in their system. This ruined Kol's life immediately, making it so he could not practice magic (something that gave him such a rush and thrill). It was a failed plan from the start - Klaus sensed his mother's deception about his real birth father and killed her. Once Kol's halfbrother killed her, he blamed their father Mikael which lead to all the siblings scattering across the world. In Kol's case: Europe.

To cope with his loss of magic Kol embraced the more vampiric traits of his to get the same feeling. This of course branded him wild, reckless and most of all dangerous. He traveled Europe making a name for not only himself but his siblings as well - Mikaelson became a bad name drenched in blood.

During his European travels Klaus, Elijah, Rebekah and Kol all went to a vampire hunter's party only to be daggered with the white oak ash daggers - the only daggers that can put an Original in a temporary slumber that lasts as long as the dagger is in them. This of course neutralised all of them but Klaus who was immune due to his werewolf heritage.

Klaus saved his siblings by removing the daggers. The misadventure made it clear to the siblings that they weren't as all powerful as they had thought. Once again, they went their separate ways.

Kol traveled a lot, staying close to witches, drawn to magic even though he could not practice. He never stopped studying and learning the craft however and after a while he was knowledgeable enough to make some of the strongest witches jealous. He learned of Kemiya which with the help of witches made it so he could use items that were imbued with magic - allowing an Original vampire to use magic.

Along the way he leaned of Silas, a supposed immortal that would bring hell on earth, something that shook the vampire to his very core. So intimidated by the idea of another immortal, he killed an entire cult of Silas' followers and hoped it to be done with.

Kol still enjoyed the finer things of being a vampire however and caused destruction and gore where-ever he went in an attempt to get the same thrill magic gave him. This was a problem for his siblings because it drew their father who hunted them. When they went to try to get Kol and bring him with them, Kol refused, assuming that their father was only after Klaus and asked him to leave him there in Spain to continue to enjoy himself. However, Klaus took it upon himself to dagger Kol as their father burned Spain down in search of them. Before Kol was neutralised he promised Klaus that he would not be so easily subdued next time and the implication of future vengeance was obvious.

Not being completely terrible siblings, they brought his and Finn's body to New Orleans where he was kept daggered.

New Orleans

Klaus awoke Kol when he felt jealous of the time Elijah and Marcel spent together, he wanted someone entertaining to be with, and it quickly became apparent with Kol's constant bloodlust that it was the wrong decision. After offering Kol multiple bodies to try to make up for daggering him, Klaus also took part in his terrorizing of New Orleans.

They killed over sixty people in one go which angered Elijah, but what took it too far was when Marcel's life was put in danger. Kol fed him some of his blood and had him watching a rather morbid enactment of Shakespeare where the actors actually killed each other. Kol claimed to be trying to show Marcel what he was getting into - to embrace being a vampire. Elijah and Klaus disapproved which lead to Kol once again being daggered and kept in his coffin.

When he was undaggered once again, it was to live with his siblings in New Orleans, of course things weren't so simple. There was still strain on the relationship between Kol and his siblings and he found himself keeping company with the witches of the French Quarter. Ultimately this lead to two factions - the witches that followed Klaus and the ones that followed Kol. The former had the goal of creating a city that vampires ran, and the latter had a vision of being sure to protect the witches of the French Quarter and put Klaus down by creating a dagger that would put him in a sleep much like the white oak ash daggers.

Along the way he taught the witches Kemiya which showed them how to create dark and cursed objects. These objects allowed him to fight Klaus and his witches with magic, something that both scared them and gave him the upper hand. That didn't last for long however, the witches could not harness enough power to turn the dagger to gold so it could subdue Klaus. This caused a rift between Kol and his followers and he went on a murderous spree to continue his plan.

Later he used the help from the witches that still followed him to find a paragon diamond - an item that would allow them all the channel enough magic into making the dagger he wanted so badly. When they found it, Klaus found him and took it from him and locked his witches away forever. This forced Kol to admit defeat, broken and angry.

What lead to his next daggering is when Rebekah rats him out for trying to continue his attempts to get the diamond back. She tells Klaus of his plans and Kol's "treachery" is made an example of at a party in front of everyone invited.

2000s
Mystic Falls, Denver

100 more years pass and Elijah feels guilt for keeping Kol daggered, so being the noble brother he is, he undaggers him. The Vampire Diaries follows a long and boring plot where all the siblings are brought back together to clash against Klaus and then ultimately their mother who attempts to kill them all with the help of Elena Gilbert. Esther planned on linking all her children together at a party she throws. Kol enjoys himself before the party, as they all get ready he makes comments about how handsome he looks, showing his good mood.

During the party, their mother laces their champagne with doppelganger blood to link their lives together so she could then kill Finn (who offered himself), which would ultimately kill all the siblings. Rebekah tells Kol that she intends to kill Matt to hurt Elena and Kol seems on board to do so. Rebekah second guessed the plan and decided against it which lead to Kol taking action and attempting to do it for her. He introduces himself to Matt and begins to crush his hand. Damon saves Matt by pushing Kol out of a balcony and snapping his neck.

The party was not in vain for mother dearest however, she managed to link all her children together, and all she would have to do is kill one to kill all of them. Later on Kol begins to tease and taunt Rebekah about spending the night with someone and exclaims that he's bored and wants to do something. Klaus gets weaseled into going out with him. They both see Caroline and Kol is amused by his brother's infatuation with her, saying that she looks good walking away from Klaus. Seeing this as a challenge he goes after her, leaving Kol alone in the bar to flirt with a pretty young woman who denies all of his come ons. The woman turns out to be helping Alaric in attempting to put all the Mikaelsons down with one of the silver daggers.

Kol is stabbed in a surprise attack and this of course puts them all down but Klaus who knew exactly what happened and went to his brother's aid to remove the dagger, unlike the rest of the siblings he was still immune.

When they find their mother, figuring out that they had been duped, they find out that she has been abandoned by the spirits attempting to help her with her ritual she'd planned, which makes Kol assume that all is fine and dandy. He feels Mystic Falls to Denver. Klaus and Kol kept in touch however, and Kol tracked Elena's bother Jeremy under his older brother's command where he then became close friends with him.

This was all a plot to get Bonnie Bennett, Elena's best friend and witch to break the spell put on the siblings, claiming that he would kill Jeremy if she didn't.

When Damon and Elena went to pick up Jeremy, they found that Kol was still around and had indeed befriended Jeremy. He kept it no secret that he had darker plans than being Jeremy's friend when he saw Damon and assaulted him with a baseball bat, only for it to break. He again tried with an aluminium bat but was stabbed with a piece of the wooden bat and staggered whilst the three fled from him.

Kol informed his brother of what happened and Klaus told him that if an Original dies as does everyone they'd ever turned. Guessing Elena and Damon's next move he found the vampire they were looking for to ask which bloodline they came from. Kol staked her and then waited for them to show up so he could smack Damon with the baseball bat that he had held onto. When they got there he taunted them about which possible bloodline they came from, ultimately making it clear that they could have come from any. He then beat Damon with the bat in front of Elena, not allowing her to leave while he beat Damon and scolded him for breaking his neck and humiliating him. After that he claimed them even and fled once again.

In Season Four Kol helped Rebekah with her hunt for the cure to vampirism. He kidnapped Atticus Shane and he and Rebekah torture Shane once they figured out that he'd mentally strong enough to fight off their compulsion. After Kol threatened Shane by dipping his head under sink water, Shane conceded, telling them where the cure is - buried with Silas - Kol gets spooked and tries to drown Shane.

Rebekah demanded that he stop drowning Shane and he complied only to fight her on her opinion telling her that Silas would kill them all. Shane said that Silas would come back and bring back everyone who died on his behalf so Kol stabbed him hoping to end him and the threat of Silas. He continued to try to dissuade Rebekah from wanting the cure because of Silas, claiming that Silas is far too powerful for them, especially her. Then to try to drive home his point, he showed her that he stole the white oak stake without her even realising. Afterwards he left, keeping the stake.

Kol continued to try to stop anyone from finding Silas and the cure - he found vampires Klaus turned and set against Jeremy so he could finish his hunter's mark by killing them. The hunter's mark is a map of where Silas would be resting. So, Kol took it upon himself to kill the vampires in attempt to keep Jeremy from furthering his mark. He tried to manipulate Jeremy into ceasing his hunt for the cure by reminding him that they were once friends but that didn't work so he settled on the tough route and said he'd just tear his limbs off since killing a hunter would curse him but without his limb he wouldn't be able to see the hunter's mark.

He attacked Jeremy only to be stopped by Damon who gave Jeremy the chance to escape. Angry with the turn of events, Kol tortured Damon and compelled him to kill Jeremy since he told Klaus he wouldn't personally harass Jeremy any more. When he returned home he was attacked by Rebekah who had found out he'd compelled Damon. She threatened to stab him with one of the daggers and he told her if she went through with it, that she was no better than Klaus and that the daggers were the reason Elijah left them. She didn't back down so he drew the white oak stake that could kill her. Klaus saved Rebekah before Kol could kill her so he fled.

Kol continued to try to keep them all from unleashing Silas. He attacked Bonnie, trying to kill her - his failure was what lead to Elena deciding that Jeremy should kill Kol, which would kill all of his sired vampires and complete the hunter's mark. Elena luered him to her house where they tried to negotiate a truce. Kol left saying he'd consider the truce but quickly after he attacked Jeremy once again. This time, Elena and Jeremy were successful in killing Kol by stabbing him with the white oak stake he'd stolen from Rebekah. Klaus witnessed the whole thing, stuck outside Elena's house unable to help his brother.

The next time Kol appears is after Bonnie uses her newly found powers to break down the veil to the other side. Kol's first stop was to see his sister who was with Matt. Kol was snide with her about her getting over his death so quickly and demanded to know where Elena was. After insulting Rebekah one more time, he attacked Matt and then left to look for Elena. He found her at Jeremy's grave and taunted her about her brother's death then attacked her. Before he could kill Elena Stefan and Jeremy stopped him and snapped his neck.

Once again Kol showed up as a ghost, bringing along the ghosts of the hybrids and witches that were sacrificed to awaken Silas. He threatened Bonnie with them demanding her to allow them back over to the world of the living. Bonnie showed him where her body had been and informed him that she was dead and would love to be alive again. She trapped him down there with her body so he couldn't leave and hurt anyone else. Elena bumped into him and he attacked her again but the veil went back up before he could hurt her.

The last appearance of Kol in The Vampire Diaries is when he tries to warn Matt about the veil falling apart. He seemed terrified and didn't want to disappear to where ever it was ghosts were disappearing to.

Present Day
New Orleans

Luckily for him, his mother brought him back to life after she managed to possess one of the harvest witches that died in a ritual only to be brought back. So he didn't have to worry about the veil collapsing.

Kol first shows up in the originals as Kaleb, a brand new body that the soul of Kol was possessing. Kol attempted to seduce Davina at the record store and introduced himself by saying that she had a cool name but terrible taste in music then added on that she needed him.

Kol is then shown to be in league with Finn and Esther and that they planned on a family reuinion of sorts. He continued to stay in the body he was possessing and following Davina for his mother. He stood her up for coffee so he could try to figure out what her secret weapon was - of course the attic she lived in was locked. Later on he invited her to dinner under his mother's command - they shared and had a generally good time. It was obvious they had chemistry.

Finn tells him to hurry up and figure out what she's hiding, and when Kol tells him to piss off in more words. Finn didn't like that answer so he took it upon himself to try to speed it up. Finn got a bunch of the loyal werewolves to attack Kol and Davina, ruining their date. Mid attack - Davina showed the secret Mikaelsons her cards however; what Davina had been hiding was their dear old vampire hunting dad. Fortunately for Davina, Finn wasn't there to report back to their mother and Kol had no intention of telling her that their supposedly dead father was back and on a leash for Davina.

Abilities/Special Powers: Once an Original Vampire - with all the traits and skills of one, he is now just a human witch.

Kol is a Mikaelson witch - a son of the Original Witch - so with that comes power, especially since he practiced when he was young, being a child prodigy when it came to witchcraft. He's got over 1000 years of knowledge of spells and tips and tricks under his belt, as well as the knowledge of Kemiya. From what he's expressed he seems to know what he's doing when it comes to magic, even dark magic. He is the reason New Orleans is littered with dark and cursed objects. Of course, as everyone knows, no magic comes without a cost and in the originals verse using magic can cause strain on the user - as of yet we haven't seen him come to such a powerstruggle however.

Third-Person Sample: LIFE, it was a simple word, one that he could simply imagine for hours at a time, and more often than not when his eyes would drift shut, once they opened again the plants in his room were flourishing far more than they were before he'd fallen into his sort of daydream like state. Life was fleeting, life was taken from him, when he was a human by his mother and father by a blade through his heart, by his brothers and sister when he was a vampire by that treacherous dagger that Klaus seemed to think was his (the bastard), by Jeremy Gilbert with the white oak stake, and even now his mother was still trying to rule his life. At least she wasn't doing it with some sort of blade or piercing object.

It made him angry, but then, he couldn't really complain. He was alive, he was experiencing life and better yet he could do magic again. No longer did he need Kemiya to practice magic because now he was a Mikaelson witch. He would make his monster of a mother pay, he would make his monster of a brother pay once he managed to create a dagger that could put Klaus down - he wouldn't kill him, that would be far too forgiving. Kol intended to give his half brother the just desserts he owed him. LIFE, it made things interesting at the most inopportune times.

Davina Claire reminded him a lot of the word, and it was the reason he fancied her so much. It was definitely the reason he found himself sat in the library pretending to read a book while blue eyes watched her instead. The younger Mikaelson didn't like to consider himself a creep, so of course he'd end up offering to help her figure out whatever she was working on. The thrills of magic seemed muted compared to the brilliance of Davina Claire and whether or not it was infatuation or a strange addiction to something so pure and alive, well, Kol didn't care. He would continue to help her and continue to indulge.

First-Person Sample:

[ When the video feed comes to life, Isaac is lounging on a rather plush chair looking far more smug than he ever has in his life. He's got a cup of tea balancing on one of the arm rests and next to it a plate of biscuits - quite the sweet tooth at the moment apparently. Of course when "Isaac" opens his mouth it becomes apparent quickly that either A) Isaac has developed a European accent or B) this isn't Isaac. ]

I'll say, one moment I was smack dab in The French Quarter and then I found myself here and I haven't a bloody clue how it happened.

[ He purses his lips a bit indignantly before speaking again. ]

And while I have to assume the company here is far superior to the company I was forced to keep there - I'm not a big fan of this unbreakable boundary spell. I'd like to meet the witch that cast it.
