It was unintentional, Michael bumping his device and contacting, via video feed, the young man he'd only recently become acquainted with. And, while he hadn't done it on purpose, he wasn't completely bothered by the mistake.
The feed shakes, and it looks as if he's going to hang up with out saying anything, but he just clears his throat - ]
[ To say Kol was angry and petulant at the moment was an understatement. A truer statement would be that he'd thrown a fit of rage and upturned his room physically - the thought would only make him angrier when he thought about it later.
When he gets a video from his favourite witch, well, it's got him a bit anxious and nervous like some sort of magic virgin or something. He couldn't even light a candle. ]
Other than I've lost my magic not a bloody clue. I can't even light a candle.
If something's going on I'm not going to be much help.
[ Kol isn't expecting the video but he's not going to complain - technology was one of the many things Kol actually appreciated about the 2000s. So much better than swords and trying not to get his face cut off by his viking father.
Or you know... Getting his name CARVED INTO HIS ARM via magica when his mother wanted him home to yell at him for some awful prank he'd pulled.
Lovely family, his. ]
Hello to you too. [ There's a grin on Kol's face as he speaks, thoroughly amused by the mistake and the general amount of awkward one person could fit into one video. It was endearing. ]
Yes, our. Last I checked, I wasn't the only one with magic here. Are you not even gonna try to get it back?
[A beat as she fights the urge to chuck her device at the wall.] Kaleb. Please, just - can we just try? [Since she'd tried on her own and no big surprise, it hadn't worked.]
[ It's as if he can sense she's getting fed up with him and has to soak it in in all his glory... But when the feed comes to life it's pointed at a ceiling fan, an expensive looking one but still not his face...
That's odd, he loves his face. ]
Your magic is gone too? This just keeps getting better and better, first me magic's bloody gone into thin air then you're telling me yours is too?
[ He sounds... Agitated. The video wobbles a bit as he shifts on his bed. ]
I've got a headache I'll keep trying to sort it out when it's gone.
It's too much of a coincidence to believe it's not something stupid and mansion related.
[Giant skinless people coming out of the forest when their magic conveniently disappears? Yeah, right.
The switch to video is appreciated, but she's not really sure it's an improvement.]
There might be some aspirin or something around for that headache. [The clinic would have probably stocked up if they were being smart - much like her. The closets were great, but she knew just how unstable magic could be and depending on them to the point that if the magic went away she'd be screwed? Well, that's quite a few different kinds of a bad idea.
[ Massive muscle anatomy dummies coming out of the forest? Where? Kol hasn't been paying attention to any of it. Really, he probably should, but he just doesn't care. He hasn't even bothered with the network much lately.
Scheming against your siblings takes a lot of focus... Focus and BLOODY FUCKING MAGIC. >:[ !!
There's a soft huff before Kol's hand comes into view with... what looks like... tree bark? As if that should answer everything. Yes, Kol, because most people gnaw on willow trees when they've got a headache and didn't think of asking the closet for aspirin but has been hoarding herbs from it like some weird witchy hoarder. ]
Mansion related? [ No one's told him about events. ]
[Not that their being human mattered, just a distinction he thought he should make.]
You'll find the most different kinds here.
[Though, he did not mind that, enjoyed it even. He wants to ask what they're stopping Kaleb from doing, and what they've taken, but Michael isn't sure that he's allowed.]
That's... unfortunate. [He wants to say more, but he refrains.] Anything I can do?
Which angel is he? [ If Michael says Lucifer... Kol is so done.
Unfortunate. Hah. If only he knew. ]
That's an understatement. [ Kol might've been willing to tell Michael if he weren't having to keep his identity to himself for the time being... Well, actually, at this point... He didn't HAVE to, he was just having fun with it, and it meant that his siblings left him alone to do whatever the hell he wanted.
The offer makes him grin though, Michael was a trip, that's for sure. ]
Unless you've got the ability to make self centered pillocks with anger issues see the error of their ways, I doubt it. But I appreciate the offer.
[It'd be weirder if she hadn't grown up around it, but it's still a little weird. The hoarding part, not so much since she's guilty of it too. Magic closet that can provide you with pretty much anything? Who wouldn't take advantage of that? She'd also done a little exploring of her own to see what else was out there, although the closet selection was much better. She had no interest in making a garden. Too much work.
There's a bit of a hesitation before answering, her own internal debate on just how much to tell him.]
The mansion, it has these things - events. The last big one before the Jabberwocky made my powers go completely out of control. I di- [Does she want to do this over the device? No.] Can we talk in person?
[He tips his head down, here's where things got a bit confusing.] But, he is not the only Archangel Gabriel here.
There is another. From another world. Other angels from that world as well.
[Wonderland was jam packed full of them, it seemed.]
I do not have that ability. [A light smile.] Though, there are those here that could, I'm sure.
[Not that Kaleb would really want to get into that sort of stuff. Well, he might, but Michael wouldn't recommend it. He didn't trust that it would end well for him. Michael couldn't vouch that they wouldn't try to dupe him.]
[ Okay, he might've been convinced of angels if Michael had tried hard enough, but Kol is certain the people here aren't actually from different worlds and they certainly aren't from different timelines. ]
Pity, I'll just have to sort it out on my own.
[ HAH, someone duping the wily trickster, as if. ]
How long were you going to lead me to believe you were dead, brother?
[ He's finally decided that contacting Kol is important. Especially after Niklaus' bomb. He's been processing. Slowly. Elijah's voice sounds clipped and angry. He'd been mourning Kol, Finn and their mother. He spoke of family to Kol and he didn't once feel he could trust Elijah with such information. ]
[ Despite Elijah's obvious agitation, Kol meets him with a grin, pleased even! ]
Hello to you too, brother.
[ The grin falls from his face though, and he lets out a thoughtful noise. ]
I was going to continue letting you all believe I was dead but Davina felt the need to break the news.
[ For someone who helped Niklaus dagger him constantly, Elijah expected him to think he cared? ]
Oh, don't pretend you're actually angry about this - I saw you all mourn - or rather forget I ever existed.
[ He might have told Elijah if he'd actually thought his elder brother would keep it to himself, but he had been doing so well doing things without Nik and Rebekah trying to control him. ]
[ All Elijah has done for years is try to get revenge for his family. To get revenge for the siblings Niklaus him to believe he lost. He played a part in things in the past, but since then Elijah has seen his brother's insanity. Seen what he's capable of.
He never would have informed Niklaus or Rebekah if Kol shared that information with him. Elijah has yet to tell both of them that Dean Winchester was the one to dagger him and bury him in the forest. Because he knows that it would only end in Dean's brutal murder. ]
You saw a different me, but I have mourned you since Niklaus told me of your demise. I contemplated making Elena Gilbert pay for that mistake when she was here briefly. You were my brother. [ He shakes his head. ] I didn't forget you.
[ Silence overcomes Kol as he simply tries to think of what to say; not many people could move him to silence, but Elijah has always been one of them. It doesn't last long however. He swallows hard, narrowing his eyes at him. ]
I'm still your brother. [ Were makes him sound like he's still dead and it bothers him a little, even if he knows Elijah only meant it in the context of the past. ] You contemplated it but didn't, did you? [ He lets out a dry little laugh, mirthless and mean. ]
Bekah only mourned for a day, and Nik was too busy being himself to care. You all say you did, but nothing changed - there was just one less burden on the family.
[ He's angry, he's lashed out at Klaus about this a couple times, and he still can't get over it. He'd always been alone, and when he died, his family proved just that. ]
I've told our brother everything I know about the situation back home. [ He's sure that's all Elijah wants, information. Just as Niklaus had. ]
I didn't kill her because what good would it have done here? She'd have returned and the vengeance would have tasted hollow. It means nothing when they get a chance at living again, Kol.
[ She was hardly around long enough for Elijah to have done anything anyways. He was far too busy worrying about what Niklaus was going to do next. Who he would hurt in his pursuit of power. ]
Our sister has been through quite a lot. Do not think she didn't mourn you, Kol. Perhaps it was not seen in her outside appearance, but she felt it. [ He really can't say how much Niklaus mourned so he doesn't even try. ] I've never seen you as a burden, Kol. You're my little brother. My family.
[ He's only ever wanted them to be whole again. ]
I care very little for the situation back home. That's not what I'm after. Those people and events are just faceless entities and events for me. I know nothing of them. I care about the situation here and now. I care about you.
[ There goes that unaccustomed silence again - simply listening and watching, as his mind falters over a pothole in the road, spinning out and hitting a tree. ]
So then why didn't you kill her back home. [ It's the only defensive response he can come up with at the moment, anger melting into shock with each word Elijah says. Sure he says this, but Kol can remember all the times Elijah helped plunge a dagger into his heart.
He's almost tempted to hang up right there and then, not wanting this to be some sick ploy for information or help. But then he knows his brother, he's just as persistent as Klaus - he'd probably just show up at his door. ]
You care about me. [ Kol echoes the words hollowly. ] All it took was for me to die to express that? [ Emotions are switching so rapidly he's glad he's no longer a vampire. Even as a human he can't control his feelings so this would have been terrifying with blood lust.
All his life he's felt alone and then in a matter of weeks he has a girl telling him she'll stand by his side, and his older brother telling him he cares about it. To say it's jarring is an understatement. And while he believed Davina fully, Elijah was another matter entirely. ] So you've phoned me up to tell me you care about me? A bit late on that front. [ His words sound a bit empty, no real anger behind them anymore. More defensiveness. ]
[ They've had their differences, but Kol had been out of control then. Just like Niklaus. Only they had no way of containing Niklaus. They had no way to stop him. The daggers never worked on him. He always had the upper hand in their family because of his hybrid status. Always lording their demise over their heads if they crossed a line with him. ]
Because you're still alive for me, brother. Back home you're alive and well. Irritating Rebekah and making Niklaus squirm. My family is whole still. Niklaus was the one to tell me of your death as well as Finn and our mother.
[ He thought they could be a family, but his mother had a different agenda. One that would see them all dead. ]
You were never in a position to hear me, Kol. Always so wild and reckless. Would it have meant anything to you then? Would you have even heard it?
[ Kol and Niklaus are so alike sometimes it's painful for him. Both so out of control. Both spiraling downward and all he can do is hope that they're okay when they land. ]
It's never too late to be there. That's what I intend to do. Be there for you.
[ Kol sucks in a sharp breath as eyes narrow dangerously at his brother. ]
All my life I've been alone - you lot have never cared for me. If this is some trick [ He can't help how his voice weakens on the word. ] or if you're playing at something, Elijah, I won't forgive you.
[ That's all he can think to threaten at the moment, far too taken aback by the words he's wanted to hear his entire life. ]
You expect me to just believe you, hm? What have you done to earn my trust, oh noble brother? Stab me in the heart with a dagger time and time again? Take our brother's side. Decide I'm not worthy of anything more than laying in a coffin?
[ The words scare him more than anything, because he wants them to be true. ]
Or maybe now that you can't dagger me either I'm to become some pet project for redemption like Nik?
[He never thought he'd be leaving a message like this, but he'd never thought he'd need to. Transitioning from someone who gets killed to someone who wants to do the killing--badly, desperately--is a harder process than he'd thought. Maybe that's what Castiel had meant about his soul and its lack of corruption.
Well, it doesn't much matter if his soul is as pure as the driven snow anymore, does it?]
Kol, that right? This is Adam. You asked about the angel proofing once.
[Adam still sounds like he had in their video message before--like there's something a little angry and bitter bubbling just beneath the surface, waiting to boil over. This time it's not angels he's furious with, it's something closer to home. Someone closer to home.]
Are you still looking for someone to show it to you?
[ Kol doesn't expect Adam to contact him, so when he does the witch can't help but be pleased by the prospect of an upper hand on more than one thing. He doesn't know what Adam's contacting him for, he'd already said he wouldn't help. ]
I remember you, you said you wouldn't help.
[ Remember that, because he does. Not so piss and vinegar when you want something, huh, Adam? ]
[Things are different now. It's not just about him anymore.]
I still haven't changed my mind about the angels, but now there's something I want to know more than I care about staying clear of them.
[Rather than sound contrite or try to backpedal, Adam had thought about it and had decided just to lay all the cards out, let Kol decide how much Adam's information is worth.]
Something you might have the market cornered on. If the old offer's still on the table, I was thinking a trade. You remember that born-again demon you were talking about? Dean Winchester? You give me a way to kill him, I give you what I got on angel warding.
[Somehow he doubts coming straight out with "I'm interested in murder" is going to offend this guy's delicate sensibilities, and there's no point beating around the bush about it.]
Word travels fast here it seems. [ He doesn't mind though, this is a walk in the park. ]
A way to kill Dean Winchester? [ There's amusement in his tone. ] I want everything you've got on the angels here, not just warding - if you can comply to that, you've got a deal, darling.
[He pauses in thought. ]
You want a way to kill him and you'll have it.
[ Most people would ask what Dean's done to him, but Kol doesn't care, if someone else wants Dean gone, well, that means there's just one more pawn on the table. Besides, he's doing a public service. ]
Hey. Would you happen to know how long it's been since you last saw me here?
Katherine, by the way. Not Elena. [you know just to make that clear. either way she is looking for a rough estimate for how long she's been gone, if he even noticed her absence at all]
[There's plenty he doesn't know about the winged dirtbags, but what he does is a small price to pay. That's not the problem.]
Fine, but-- [And here's where he's learned from taking someone like Zachariah at their word.] --I'm not signing on the doted line without a guarantee. You'd better prove you're good for it.
[Without a guarantee, Kol's promises could be worth exactly as much as Zachariah's: nothing.]
I'm good for my word. [ He seems a little bothered that Adam doesn't believe him. ] How should I prove I'm good for it? [ It's not like he can just make Adam believe him.
The terms don't surprise him, they do however irritate just a bit. If there's one thing a Mikaelson is good for, it's their word. ]
[ He seems visibly relieved that it's Katherine and not Elena. ] Welcome back, love.
[ As for an answer... ]
A couple weeks? Maybe a bit longer, I've been a bit busy dealing with me sod of a brother to be paying attention to time. But I did notice you weren't around.
Everyone says that. Talking through their teeth is of the things humans and monsters have in common, I already know how this works. You could set me up with something that doesn't work on him, or that I can't actually use. Or squeeze me for information and call the rest off.
[Double-dealing is especially true in the case of non-humans with special powers--powers that give them the advantage. All that translates to is license to screw other people over.
Adam has no doubt in his mind that if Kol had a reason to fuck with him personally, he'd take every chance to wiggle out of a deal to do it. He expects a lie or some backstabbing, but none of that matters if it gets him closer to a way to deal with Dean. Kol just has to do that much. It doesn't matter if it blows up in Adam's face, so long as it works and it blows up in Dean's, too.]
Well, last time I tried to kill Dean Winchester, I was stopped abruptly by one of his friends. We've got the same interests in mind, so I see little reason to falsely deliver a solution to the problem.
[ Really, it's true, if there's anyone that wants Dean Winchester dead, it's Kol Mikaelson. He'd easily consider them enemies, and while he could turn Nik or Beks against the demon, he doesn't want to break his promise to Elijah nor does he want to put them in danger. ]
I win if I make you something that can kill him. I don't run the risk of him or his friends retaliating against me, and I learn what I want to know about Angels. And you're free to do whatever your heart's content with such a weapon.
So I'd worry less about if you can trust me and more about whether or not whatever plan you've got concocted in that head of yours will work. Or even the simplest question that everyone oft forgets to ask - "can I do it?"
Thank you— [she smiles looking visibly pleased that someone noticed her absence and was glad to see her too because she was definitely glad that Kol was still around]
I wouldn't have thought it was that long— but that's good to know. Not so much that Klaus is still around though.
[Huh, that's interesting. A friend? Dean certainly has enough of those, too many, and he has to wonder if Kol's being serious about that.
It'd give the two of them something in common. He's not sure how he feels about that. People with bugs up their asses about the Winchesters could just easily turn on him, it's happened before, and too often for his taste.]
Glad you're not trying to give me crap about keeping your name out of it or something's going to happen to me in my sleep. I got it.
[Mostly because there's no way he'd ever talk about his business. Not voluntarily.]
And if you're asking if I've got the guts to do it, yeah, I do. [He's firm on this point, hard like steel.] I'm human, he's stronger than me... I get it, I get all of it. I just need the one chance so that if I go down, he's going down with me.
He was kind to me when I knew no better. He acted as an adviser on more than one occasion. But he betrayed my trust, invited me to his dinners, killed and devoured some of our own.
[ Beat. ] I cannot abide his wandering freely in our home.
We spoke once of a prison you might help me to create. You needn't get involved with my affairs; I wouldn't ask that of you. I... do not have the magic to make such a place and I trust few else to help.

Well, it doesn't much matter if his soul is as pure as the driven snow anymore, does it?]
Kol, that right? This is Adam. You asked about the angel proofing once.
[Adam still sounds like he had in their video message before--like there's something a little angry and bitter bubbling just beneath the surface, waiting to boil over. This time it's not angels he's furious with, it's something closer to home. Someone closer to home.]
Are you still looking for someone to show it to you?

I remember you, you said you wouldn't help.
[ Remember that, because he does. Not so piss and vinegar when you want something, huh, Adam? ]
I am. Have you changed your mind on helping me?
no subject

Katherine, by the way. Not Elena. [you know just to make that clear. either way she is looking for a rough estimate for how long she's been gone, if he even noticed her absence at all]

The terms don't surprise him, they do however irritate just a bit. If there's one thing a Mikaelson is good for, it's their word. ]
You don't seem the trusting sort.

[ As for an answer... ]
A couple weeks? Maybe a bit longer, I've been a bit busy dealing with me sod of a brother to be paying attention to time. But I did notice you weren't around.

All I care is that it does the job.

I wouldn't have thought it was that long— but that's good to know. Not so much that Klaus is still around though.

[ Welp. ]
Aah, [ Gross. Gross. She ate people? Ew. To be fair Kol drank people for ages but... ] I've heard the stories, yes.
[ There's an odd amusement to his voice, not a mocking one - more like he sounds impressed. ]
And what would you like me to do about it, Little Queen?
voice;
We spoke once of a prison you might help me to create. You needn't get involved with my affairs; I wouldn't ask that of you. I... do not have the magic to make such a place and I trust few else to help.
