[Things are different now. It's not just about him anymore.]
I still haven't changed my mind about the angels, but now there's something I want to know more than I care about staying clear of them.
[Rather than sound contrite or try to backpedal, Adam had thought about it and had decided just to lay all the cards out, let Kol decide how much Adam's information is worth.]
Something you might have the market cornered on. If the old offer's still on the table, I was thinking a trade. You remember that born-again demon you were talking about? Dean Winchester? You give me a way to kill him, I give you what I got on angel warding.
[Somehow he doubts coming straight out with "I'm interested in murder" is going to offend this guy's delicate sensibilities, and there's no point beating around the bush about it.]
Word travels fast here it seems. [ He doesn't mind though, this is a walk in the park. ]
A way to kill Dean Winchester? [ There's amusement in his tone. ] I want everything you've got on the angels here, not just warding - if you can comply to that, you've got a deal, darling.
[He pauses in thought. ]
You want a way to kill him and you'll have it.
[ Most people would ask what Dean's done to him, but Kol doesn't care, if someone else wants Dean gone, well, that means there's just one more pawn on the table. Besides, he's doing a public service. ]
[There's plenty he doesn't know about the winged dirtbags, but what he does is a small price to pay. That's not the problem.]
Fine, but-- [And here's where he's learned from taking someone like Zachariah at their word.] --I'm not signing on the doted line without a guarantee. You'd better prove you're good for it.
[Without a guarantee, Kol's promises could be worth exactly as much as Zachariah's: nothing.]
I'm good for my word. [ He seems a little bothered that Adam doesn't believe him. ] How should I prove I'm good for it? [ It's not like he can just make Adam believe him.
The terms don't surprise him, they do however irritate just a bit. If there's one thing a Mikaelson is good for, it's their word. ]
Everyone says that. Talking through their teeth is of the things humans and monsters have in common, I already know how this works. You could set me up with something that doesn't work on him, or that I can't actually use. Or squeeze me for information and call the rest off.
[Double-dealing is especially true in the case of non-humans with special powers--powers that give them the advantage. All that translates to is license to screw other people over.
Adam has no doubt in his mind that if Kol had a reason to fuck with him personally, he'd take every chance to wiggle out of a deal to do it. He expects a lie or some backstabbing, but none of that matters if it gets him closer to a way to deal with Dean. Kol just has to do that much. It doesn't matter if it blows up in Adam's face, so long as it works and it blows up in Dean's, too.]
Well, last time I tried to kill Dean Winchester, I was stopped abruptly by one of his friends. We've got the same interests in mind, so I see little reason to falsely deliver a solution to the problem.
[ Really, it's true, if there's anyone that wants Dean Winchester dead, it's Kol Mikaelson. He'd easily consider them enemies, and while he could turn Nik or Beks against the demon, he doesn't want to break his promise to Elijah nor does he want to put them in danger. ]
I win if I make you something that can kill him. I don't run the risk of him or his friends retaliating against me, and I learn what I want to know about Angels. And you're free to do whatever your heart's content with such a weapon.
So I'd worry less about if you can trust me and more about whether or not whatever plan you've got concocted in that head of yours will work. Or even the simplest question that everyone oft forgets to ask - "can I do it?"
[Huh, that's interesting. A friend? Dean certainly has enough of those, too many, and he has to wonder if Kol's being serious about that.
It'd give the two of them something in common. He's not sure how he feels about that. People with bugs up their asses about the Winchesters could just easily turn on him, it's happened before, and too often for his taste.]
Glad you're not trying to give me crap about keeping your name out of it or something's going to happen to me in my sleep. I got it.
[Mostly because there's no way he'd ever talk about his business. Not voluntarily.]
And if you're asking if I've got the guts to do it, yeah, I do. [He's firm on this point, hard like steel.] I'm human, he's stronger than me... I get it, I get all of it. I just need the one chance so that if I go down, he's going down with me.
